"Heal Our Land"

A spirit of great contrition for our land (America) took hold of our bible study group tonight as we worshipped.  The song we sang that most embodied our anguish and drove our praying was “Heal Our Land”.  (Words and music came from Tom and Robin Brooks, c. 1988 Integrity’s Hosanna! Music, c/o Integrity Music, Inc.)  Of themselves the words cannot carry the burden of the moment we experienced, but if meditated upon, perhaps God will lead you also into a place of brokenness for America.

Here are the words to “Heal Our Land”.  It certainly can be applied to other nations.

 (The song is based on the promise of restoration from II Chronicles 7:14, Old Testament)

                If my people will humble themselves, humble themselves, humble themselves and pray,

                If they seek My face and humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways;

                I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin, I will hear from heaven and heal their land.

                Chorus:

                Lord, heal our land, Father, heal our land, hear our cry and turn our nation back to You;

                Lord, heal our land, hear us, O Lord and heal our land, forgive our sin and heal our broken land.

                Lord, we bow our knee, we humble ourselves, humble ourselves and pray,

                Lord, we seek Your face, we humble ourselves and turn from our wicked ways;

                Father, in Your mercy, forgive our sin, Father, in Your mercy, come, heal our land.

In America we are at the point if God does not do something for us we are totally lost and undone.  Certainly individuals are to do their part and certainly God uses human instruments to effect His will, but it appears the most creative things individuals, even groups of individuals, can do is pray.  Not wimpy prayers to a wimpy God.  But powerful prayers that will move an all-powerful God to do some powerful things.  And in His doing those things the people will know He is God.

We need the spirit of Elijah to come upon us that we might have a show-down with all the spirits of ungodliness.  Having prepared an altar of sacrifice, Elijah prayed a brief prayer calling for God to answer by fire and so He did.  “Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces;  and they said, ‘The Lord, He is  God!;  the Lord, He is God!’” (I Kings 18:3.)

We need prayers that will bring fire from heaven.
